“The finest achievement of human society and its rarest pleasure is conversation.” —Jacques Barzun

John Calder is a well-known publisher and supporter of the arts, who’s brought us fine work from authors such as Samuel Beckett, Marguerite Duras and challenged McCarthyism in his own right.

Jim Haynes is good friend of Mr Calder, founder of the Traverse Theatre here in Scotland, and another well-known friend of the arts.

During this conversation, Calder, Haynes, and Belk exchanged ideas about technology, politics, the future of the arts and life itself. Here is part of that conversation… We hope you enjoy it.

Agree, Disagree, but don’t be silent.
